The sanctuary room is reached through the back of the kitchen and the central cantina (cellar), and is particularly tranquil, being up under the ground. You can see the white Buddha figure in photos of the kitchen, to understand how this room sits up and behind the kitchen.

It’s a perfect meditation room: its snugness is complimented by a low ceiling with big wooden beams (currently covered in cotton sheeting), and a futon bed. It has an arched niche, and other quirky spaces.

It is also a great guest room; cool and dark in summer, and very cosy in winter with the heat from the kitchen stove coming up via the ‘Buddha window’… I’ve also used this cosy room as an office and a sewing room, over the years.
